Another issue with Outlook! Outlook Crashes when users attempt to View contact Card Information. Microsoft already confirms this issue. This issue is getting highlighted after Aug 2022 Office Patch Installation.
As per the incident details, Some users’ Microsoft 365 apps may crash when users attempt to view contact card information. Outlook for Windows may crash when users attempt to view contact card information.
One of the Twitter users, boosted Bobby Tables, reported the issue that there is a reproducible outlook for windows crashes on multiple computers when hovering contacts. This looks like a new issue with Version 2206, build 15330.20298.
Microsoft didn’t acknowledge a known issue with Aug 2022 Office patch during the initial report on Twitter. Later Microsoft accepted the issue and raised an incident ticket MO412229.
Update: The Issue is fixed by Microsoft they reverted to the last known unaffected version to expedite remediation, subsequently confirming resolution with some formerly affected users.
- NOTE! – Impact is specific to the Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps version 2206.
Outlook Crashes when users attempt to View Contact Card
We see an issue with the latest patched Outlook application when a user tries to hover over the Outlook contact information. As per Microsoft, they are getting reports that Microsoft 365 apps (aka Office 365) are having problems after the August 2022 patch installation.
Microsoft reports – “We’ve received reports from users on the Monthly Enterprise Channel version 2206 that their Microsoft 365 apps are crashing when attempting to view a user’s contact card information.”
Microsoft is still working to understand the root cause of the issue and analyzing the recent changes made to the Microsoft 365 services. They were also trying to gather diagnostic data. Microsoft also confirmed that they could reproduce the issue in their own environments.
Workaround to FIX Outlook Crashes Issue?
As per Microsoft, the Workaround is to revert to the previous version of the Microsoft app. That means reverting back to using Version 2205 as an alternative while Microsoft work to address the issue in full.

No Issue with Outlook Version 2207 build 15427.20210
It seems there is no issue with Outlook Version 2207 build 15427.20210. We tried to reproduce the issue with the 2207 version and build 15427.20210. But everything worked just fine on the current channel 2207 version.
