Can Monitoring Folders and Files cause performance issues?
Yes, if you didn’t systematically configure the monitoring folders and files, your applications could experience a significant performance impact.
As I mentioned above, many scripts are available in the community to monitor folders and files via SCOM. But all are optimized? I don’t think so.
The Discovery of folders and files should be optimized. I recommend configuring the discovery of files and folders carefully.
This will help us avoid any performance issues caused by discovery and monitoring folders. Run the discovery only on the specific folders. And use optimized SCOM Management Packs (MP) to monitor folders and files.

Savision has been acquired by MartelloTech, and this management pack has been abandoned. I found a bug in the MP for when there are many (>100,000) files, reached out to MartelloTech about it and a potential fix for the issue, and was advised that they will not support the MP:

Is it possible to use this MP across Domains where CIFS has been blocked by Firewall due to security reasons?
I have this MP running in the same Domain as SCOM Mgmt Servers and it works fine but have just setup one monitor on a folder across the firewall to another Domain and it is showing a flatline.
Any ideas?
