3 Layers of Protection in Entra Internet Access Network Identity and AI Security. Microsoft is improving the Entra Suite by expanding Entra Internet Access into a Secure Web and AI Gateway. Entra can now protect not just normal web and SaaS traffic, but also all AI traffic going in and out of your organization.

Every request, whether it’s to a website, a SaaS app, or an AI model, is checked and secured from a single, unified gateway. Microsoft uses three layers of protection to make this work. The first layer is network defense, which acts like a security shield between your organization and the internet.

The second layer is identity-based controls, which let you manage access to network traffic just like Conditional Access. The third layer is AI-aware protection, which can understand and secure AI-related traffic in real time. With this enhanced visibility, Entra Internet Access can now identify and block AI-related threats in real time, including prompt-injection attacks aimed at your AI apps and models.

It monitors traffic from both approved enterprise apps and unknown shadow AI tools, stopping any suspicious or risky activity immediately. This keeps your organization’s AI workloads secure, no matter what applications your employees use.

The solution connects with Microsoft Defender to detect when employees use AI tools or apps that the company has not approved. It shows which apps are being used, allowing the security team to decide which ones to allow, monitor, or block. This makes it easier to control employee app usage and helps prevent unexpected security risks.
