SCCM CB Release has Changed 2 Versions per Year | March and September

The latest news is that SCCM CB Release has Changed 2 Versions per year in March (xx03) and September (xx09). This was expected and reported by HTMD Community with the post – Windows Client OS Release Cycle Getting Changed to 3 Years.

Balasubramanian Delli announced via Tech Community post that the Release Cadence Changes to Microsoft Configuration Manager. As per his update, the next release of Microsoft Configuration Manager after 2303 will be in September 2023, version 2309.

We think that Microsoft has focused more on the SCCM QUALITY of service rather than new features. The quality point is also highlighted in Bala’s blog post as well. This is good news for customers so that they can concentrate on priority migrations to Microsoft Intune or Windows 11, etc.

SCCM Technical Preview version cadence will also get changed from 12 releases to 4 per year. Let’s find out the end of support dates for the SCCM Current Branch. We don’t see any comments on that yet from Microsoft.

2 releases after the 2023 March release.

More to deliver QUALITY service than new features and to get aligned with Windows Release Cycle.

In which months Microsoft Configuration Manager will be released?

March (xx03), and September (xx09). Example – 2303, 2309, 2403, 2409

What would be the Release Cycle for SCCM Technical Preview Versions?

There will be 4 SCCM Technical Preview (TP) releases per year.

When will Microsoft Release SCCM Baseline Versions?

Baseline versions would be part of the March releases. For example, 2303, 2403, 2503, etc…

What would be the number of Months of Support Life Cycle of SCCM CB Versions?

18 months as per Microsoft, the same as the previous support life cycle.

New Support Model for SCCM | SCCM CB Release has Changed 2 Versions per year

Microsoft has not specifically announced any changes in the support model for SCCM CB while releasing this post. At the moment, it’s something similar to:

  • Each SCCM update version remains in support for 18 months from its general availability release date.

  1. I believe, this is typo.

    Microsoft “started” more “confusing” on the QUALITY of service rather than news features, as per the blog post from Bala.

    looks like 2409 is not yet released? is it normal ? cannot see it on mecm console updates nor on microsoft website.
