During the May Patch Tuesday, Microsoft announced Office for Mac Vulnerabilities CVE-2023-24953 and CVE-2023-29344. Today (16th May), Microsoft announced that they have released a fix for this issue.

Microsoft fixed 3 zero-day vulnerabilities as part of the May patch Tuesday. The Office for Mac fix is released today by the Office team as per the latest notification from MSRC. Recently Microsoft fixed the vulnerabilities in Office applications for Windows devices as well.

The following are the Office for Mac vulnerabilities – Microsoft Excel Remote Code Execution Vulnerability CVE-2023-24953 and Microsoft Office Remote Code Execution Vulnerability CVE-2023-29344. The recommendation is to update the impacted Office for Mac versions immediately.

The impacted version of Office for Mac?

Microsoft Office 2019 for Mac and Microsoft Office LTSC for Mac 2021 are the impacted versions of Office for Mac. This is for both the Vulnerabilities CVE-2023-24953 and CVE-2023-29344. You don’t have to worry If you are using a different version of Office application.

  • Manual – Updates are available from Microsoft AutoUpdate (MAU). To use Microsoft AutoUpdate, start an Office application, such as Word, and then choose Help > Check for Updates. 
  • Automated way using Intune –  You can download and deploy the update packages for each application within Office for Mac app suite.
