When the policy is disabled, Windows completely blocks game recording and live broadcasting features. When the policy is enabled or left not configured, Windows allows recording and broadcasting features to function normally. Users can record clips, take screenshots, and stream gameplay without restrictions. This policy is only enforced on Windows 10 desktop devices, and setting the value to 0 applies the most restrictive control by fully disabling DVR and broadcasting.

How to Create a Policy
To start allow game DVR policy creation, sign in with Microsoft Intune Admin center. Go to Devices > Configuration > +Create >+ New Policy. Creating Profile is the next step after clicking on Create button. On this step you can choose platform and profile type. Here I would like to configure the policy to Windows 10 and later platform and settings catalog profile. Then click on the Create button.
Enter Policy Name and Description Through Basics Page
Basic Tab is the first tab that used to add Name and Description for the policy. This is very important step that gives an identity for your policy. Here Name is Mandatory and Description is optional. After adding this, click on the Next button.
Configure Game DVR Policy
From the Configuration Tab, you can see the +Add settings hyperlink to access specific settings. When you click on this hyperlink, you will get Settings Picker. In the search box, type game DVR or select the microsoft app store category. Then, select the game DVR setting.
Once you have selected this settings and closed the Settings picker. You will see it on the Configuration page. Here we have only two settings: Enabled or Disabled. By default, game DVR will be set to Allow. If you want to allow these settings, click on the Next button.
Block Game DVR Policy
If we block or don’t configure this policy, you can block the game DVR by toggling the switch from right to left. Then, you can click the Next button to continue.
Importance of Scope tags
A Scope Tag in Intune is used to control visibility and access to Intune resources based on administrative roles. Scope tags are not mandatory. You can add the scope tag using the Select scope tags button. Click the Next button to proceed.
What is the Role of Assignments
On the Assignments tab, we can select which users or devices get this policy. Under Include Groups, click Add Groups. From the list, select the group that we want to target (HTMD – Test Policy). Then click the Next button.
Review and Create the Policy
At the final Review + Create step, we see a summary of all configured settings for the new profile; after reviewing the details and making any necessary changes by clicking Previous. We click Create to finish, and a notification confirms that the “Allow Game DVR created successfully”.
Monitoring Status After the Policy Creation
We can check a policy’s status in the Intune Portal. Generally, it takes about 8 hours for policies to be created. Use the manual sync option to reduce the configuration delay in the Company Portal app on the device, then check the status again. Navigate to Devices> Configuration. Click on the specific policy(Allow Game DVR).
Windows Configuration Service Provider (CSP)
The policy Configuration Service Provider (CSP) is a tool for businesses to manage settings on Windows 10 and 11 devices. It details each policy’s function (Description Framework Properties), available choices (Allowed Values), and how it relates to older Group Policy settings (Group Policy Mapping details).

How to Remove Assigned Group from Game DVR Policy
Sometimes, we need to remove a group from a policy assignment for security updates. Open the policy from the Configuration tab and click on the Edit button on the Assignment tab. Click on the Remove button on this section to remove the policy. Click Review + Save after making the change.

How to Delete Game DVR Policy from Intune
If the policy is no longer needed, you can delete it fully from Intune. Sign in to the Microsoft Intune Admin Center and go to Devices > Configuration profiles. Locate the policy you want to remove and open it. Click the three-dot menu in the top corner and select Delete. The policy is now permanently removed and will not affect any devices.
